A tale about Imports, exports; Fish; Puppy dogs; and big red scarves

Not a good week for either the Red or Blue Tories in Scotland, but a braw week for Penicuik and the SNP

I note the tweet from Scottish Tory’s very own wee Kirstine Hair, who’s in the habit of tweeting mince in a vain attempt to gaslight the SNP

.@theSNP goal of independence inside the EU single market would destroy the internal market of the UK, which accounts for 61% of Scotland’s exports. Is it any surprise that businesses and investors are deterred by the SNP holding the threat of #indyref2 over their heads?

See the implication here is (to my mind) that rUK would stop buying Scottish exports (£46.5m 2016) when we achieve independence. However, the wee mite seems unaware that Scotland imports £51m from rUK (2016). (https://discourse.scot/2017/06/04/initial-data-for-2016-imports-and-exports-published/)

With rUK’s fast shrinking export market due to the Brexit effect, is Hair really trying to convince the Scottish businesses that rUK could afford to lose £51m of exports due to our independence?

Thinking of Tories, I note that following the exposure of Ross Thompsons’ doing by the chair of the Defra committee, when he was reminded that the campaign against shock dog collars was well established before he was ever elected; and the committee would not “want to violate the devolved settlement” Thompson has now kicked off a ‘new’ campaign against puppy smugglers.

Was I too cruel to have reminded him that the SNP’s John Mason is already on such a campaign?

Poor old Ross, seems to be in the habit of missing the boat on his campaigns, and despite seemingly on a mission to ingratiate himself with the rUK electorate, very publicly caught the boat on the Thames last Wednesday, was seemingly missing by the time Nigel Farage dumped dead fish rather stealing the limelight.

It’s somewhat ironic despite Ross and Kirstine’s very public tantrums against their master’s position on fishing rights, up pop’s a non-MP and steals the publicity.

On the other side of the opposition bed, the pillows are drenched in Scottish Labour tears having failed to retain their seat in the Penicuik by-election, despite sending in the big gun himself Jeremy Corbyn.

What could have gone wrong? Well blaming the SNP for closing the pits even thought the closures predated Scottish Devolution was perhaps a miss step?

Or was this miss-step seen as a blatant lie to pass the buck from a Labour run council that’s imposing swathes of cuts of its electorate? The ‘saving’ are nothing less than austerity at Slab’s hands and are as swinging enough to make a Tory smile.

Never mind eh? I mean I’m pretty sure those thick red scarves will absorb an awfy lot of Red Tory tears?
